In the old days pubs used to have their own off-licences as these were the only places that you could buy alcohol to take home. These served as a vital part of the community and also one of the original recyclers as they would take your bottles back, rewarding you by giving a discount on your next purchase. I feel this would be a delightful thing to bring back. By having a fine relationship with my brewer I would sell their original beers from a small booth in the corner of the pub, but it would also be accessible from the street.
I think it would nice.

As a young lad I enjoyed many an evening surrounded by old sailors heaving their balls down a long, dark alley hoping to reach the elusive prize at the end. I am of course talking about the ancient pub game of skittles ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Skittles_(sport) ). I regularly played it with my dad and his old navy mates at a club in town and became pretty good at it after a while! Anyways, enough nostalgia. I looked up alleys in London and it seems there are only two! Which is a shame seeing as it was such a popular game, once played all over London.

I’m sure you can see where I’m getting at, #TheHandandRacquet skittles club. Situated in the basement of the pub with a range of different teams all vying to be crowned ‘World’ champion! I think it would be nice!

We all love TV. It is a taboo subject. Many of us choosing (like myself) to alter the truth slightly to make our viewing more infrequent and maybe more spiritual. But TV is good as an escapism, we all know that. As long as you don’t get sucked in and let it become a permanent retreat. I like watching ‘Girls’, its funny, its dirty and I don’t live in Brooklyn so that makes a nice change for me. See the sights. It’s also an experience that I love to share. The perception of TV is beginning to change as stars and production companies begin to create as amazing television, as they do cinema, with big shows making big money.

My plan is. Not, movie night. TV night. When the big shows are on, #TheHandandRacquet will show them. Just imagine… Mad Men night. Watching the new series sipping an ‘Old Fashioned’. Or have you ever seen Catfish: The TV show? Imagine watching that with all of your mates trying to guess who the weird/psycho/transgender Facebook friend is that this persons’ been talking to for ten years.

It would all be so good I promise.

Colour is oh so important when you’re looking for a sexy pub to while away your evening. From bottle green to duck shell blue to subtle red brick there is a multitude of colours to choose from. Recently there has been a resurgence in charcoal grey (a personal fave of mine) which I believe looks very modern and pretty cool. Along the same lines black produces a very ‘trendy’ look especially combined with the classic gold lettering.

But! I can’t make this kind of decision right now! It depends on the street. The light. The surrounding buildings. Pavement. History of pubs in the area! Loads of stuff! So we’ll just have to wait and see.

Sunday’s for me are something special.

Cosy.Snug.Comfortable.Easy.Relaxed.

All however drenched in the dread of returning to work the next day which can only be helped by a smooth atmosphere to your Sunday. I believe this feeling can be achieved by a number of things such as beautiful acoustic musics!

Much like the sweet sounds of Rhodes Music. I have become quietly addicted to the two tracks released on-line by Rhodes, creating many a vivid image and invigorating past feelings which I thought were forgotten. A good thing. Gorgeously produced, the aching vocals float over softly plucked guitar creating a sound I have not found before. The only tiny comparison I can make is towards Rhodes’s other stunning track ’Falling’ which has vocal hints of Anthony & the Johnson’s. Again a good thing. But you may disagree.

Anyway’s he would be a perfect candidate to The Hand and Racquet Acoustic Sunday’s. Unoriginal I know. But still…

New Years eve at the hand and racquet would be a night like no other! Each year would have a different theme from the swinging sixties to cops and robbers to famous artisans. Depending on the theme of the night would be punctuated with various pieces of entertainment such as wowing cabaret, dress up boxes or just sexy cocktails! The events will all of course be sound-tracked by amazing djs and oh so good bands that will keep the party going until the wee small hours. Every year will be just that bit better than the year before.
This year would be flapper girls and boys.

Every picture tells a thousand tales and a Cindy Sherman picture tells even more than most. Her telling images have always been my favourite from an early age. Her stills will hang from ‘The Hands’ walls without a single doubt. A x

So this is what my pub would be like if I ever had one.Aesthetically and musically I will describe how it would be. And if I wish 'ard enough it might actually become a reality.
